Welcome to PREPBLOG!

I'm Preppy Readingfrog, host and mascot of the Portland Reading Excellence Program. PREP began in the fall of 2006 as an effort to improve the educational aspirations and achievements of our younger Neighborhood House members.

We presently have 40 pre-K through 6th grade children involved in PREP. Volunteer tutors can visit our center Monday through Thursday and work one on one with the children in the afternoon and early evening. We read to children who are not yet literate and read with children who are already reading. Tutors also work simple math exercises and review elementary math concepts like counting, addition, and subtraction with the children.

The blog posts to your left are in reverse chronological order. If you want to learn more about PREP and how you can help, scroll to the lowest post (some may be in archives) and read them from oldest to newest(-:

If you want more information on Neighborhood House, visit their website at http://www.nhky.org/. If you want more information about becoming a tutor, call Neighborhood House, visit us on for a first Monday orientation, or email Preppy at nhky.tutoring@yahoo.com.

See you soon at Neighborhood House!
